ScratchCam adds some great new features in version 1.2

Posted by on May 20, 2011 in ScratchCam |

We have been working hard on our new update and are thrilled to announce that it is now available in the app store!

The update focuses on two main features that will give you more control over the images you create but without removing the essence of the random scratchcam awesomeness.

New Strength Slider

  • We have added a slider control that lets you alter the degree to which the scratchcam effect is applied to your photo. When you hit the “Random” button, the strength slider starts at 100% but if you decide you would like to turn down the vibe, just adjust the slider until the photo looks the way you like it. Easy!

An Undo Button saves the day!

  • The second main feature is the addition of an Undo button – we had a lot of feedback telling us (and also found in our own real-world usage of scratchcam) that in the excitement of whizzing through the effects hitting randomise over and over it was all too easy to accidentally zoom past that money shot  that you were waiting for. So we added the undo button for that exact circumstance – If you realise that you’ve just gone past the one effect that fitted your photo perfectly, just hit undo!

Even more awesome randomness

  • Thirdly, although at first not as obvious as the first two updates but just as central to the release, we have updated the effects generation significantly adding a number of new effects, removing some older ones that weren’t quite working as we’d have liked and tweaking the formulas for randomness. This update has really expanded the possibilities of what scratchcam can create and hopefully makes it much more fun to use.

Maintenance updates

  • Finally we have made some regular maintenance updates, tweaking the UI and fixing one particular issue that was causing the app to crash under low-memory situations, especially on 3GS devices.

Examples

  • And even more finally… here is a handful of images we created using the new version 1.2 of ScratchCam!

ScratchCam has been available in the app store for around a month now and we have started to see some amazing interpretations cropping up online – it’s so great to see how you guys and gals out there have been using our humble app to create some wonderful images!

Here are five of our favourites that were uploaded to Flickr over the past few weeks… We will be making this a regular feature on the blog so don’t be shy, come over and join our Flickr group and share your scratched-up shots with the world :)

Please click on each of the photo’s above to visit the respective artist’s Flickr page. As is common throughout the iPhoneography community, the photo’s shown here may have been processed using a number of applications before reaching their final result but we have only selected those that are distinctively ScratchCam images – that is to say they retain an overall look and feel of the ScratchCam effect.

ScratchCam at The Rocks

Hey guys, here’s a quick post to just give you a little sneak peek at the kind of images ScratchCam is capable of creating.

We are working hard at creating a great mix of textures and effects that will give your ScratchCam photo’s seemingly endless potential – so take a look at this set of photo’s that have had the ScratchCam treatment and see for yourself what it’s capable of.

There is one “before” and twelve “after” shots in this slideshow – and this is just scratching the surface!

ScratchCam v1.1 is out now!

Posted by on May 3, 2011 in ScratchCam |

Today marks the release of ScratchCam version 1.1 on the App Store.

We have added a load of new effects to the random generator and made a few updates to the user interface. Here is the full list of updates:

  • Added new scratch, damage & border effects to give even more possible combinations
  • ScratchCam now remembers your last photo if you exit and come back into the app so you won’t lose it if you get interrupted by a call etc.
  • Added functionality to let you swap which Facebook account you are logged into
  • Updated the layout of the Flickr upload screen to make it easier to use
  • Added an activity indicator when you hit refresh to let you know ScratchCam is busy working away at creating a new effect
  • Fixed a bug that was causing photos of certain aspect ratios to not be displayed correctly

We have a maintenance release coming up very soon which will fix some back-end bits and pieces but following that will be the first version that we will be starting to incorporate some of the great ideas on the feedback we have been getting in these three short weeks since ScratchCam was released, so hold on to your hats for some great features!

Don’t forget that you can help shape the future of ScratchCam – if you have an idea or suggestion that you would like us to hear, just let us know through the contact page on scratchcam.com or on our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/scratchcam

See you soon!
